What is an RSI Claim?

RSI can be caused by various factors including:

  • A poorly designed workstation which does not suit the user’s needs. For example, the desk may be the wrong height, or they may have to stretch to use their keyboard.
  • Regular heavy lifting
  • Holding the body in the same position for an extended period such as when using a keyboard, or holding a phone
  • Repeating the same movement when operating machinery, including on a production line

As well as employers having a responsibility, employees also have a duty to keep their workspace safe. An employer is not liable for an injury if, for example, their employee does not cooperate with a risk assessment, or if their circumstances change and they do not notify their employer.
